This smoothie has 4 key ingredients:
Ingredient 1 – The low fat (or skimmed) milk
The advantage of low fat milk is that it tends to be high in protein and low in calories. An alternative option is to use coconut water, which is very healthy but low in protein. If you use coconut water do consider adding protein powder.
Ingredient 2 – Baby Spinach
The benefits of spinach go on and on and on.
It really is a superfood and can help your vision (it contains high levels of chlorophyll and carotenoids which being anti-inflammatory and anti-cancerous are especially important for healthy eye sight)
In addition it can help restore energy levels, increase vitality and improve the quality of your blood. The key to this is the high natural iron levels which help your red blood cells transport oxygen around the body. (To support energy production).
It is also naturally rich in nitrates; these may help improve blood flow and pressure by relaxing the blood vessels. In addition it has vitamin k to help your bones. As well having lots of protective compounds called polyphenols which may help protect against colon cancer. And it also tastes great !
Ingredient 3 – Kiwi
Kiwis are great Vitamin C and fiber and have a number of health benefits. Like spinach it can help your heart health, digestive health, and immunity.
Ingredients 4 – The frozen pineapple chunks
You could use fresh pineapple – we simply use frozen because it’s easy to store and also means you don’t have to use ice cubes to cool the smooth. As our article on skin care smoothies explains it is a great source of vitamin C. As well as having strong antioxidant properties, vitamin C is needed for the creation of elastin and collagen, which bind your skin cells together and maintain their firmness and structure.
